Bathroom Makeover on a Budget

This last Winter, we remodeled our main floor bathroom. In all honesty, this wasn't planned what so ever. One morning, I told my husband I was having horrible anxiety and couldn't pinpoint what was making me so anxious. He suggested going to get the updated hardware for the main floor bathroom that I've been wanting to take my mind off those anxious feelings. Well, that led to a complete makeover! I keep telling myself that the anxiety made me do it - ha!

My husband and I don't have a large budget for remodeling projects especially with another baby on the way so we had to be pretty frugal when it came to purchasing new and utilizing existing features of the bathroom.

Our house was built is 1993 and hadn't been updated since the day they broke ground so the gold fixtures had to go! We replaced all the hardware with black hardware. Do you know how hard it is to find black hardware at an actual hardware store? You can easily find a brushed bronze which is pretty dark but we wanted a true black that would make the pine look a bit more modern and something we could pull through the entire house.

We were given the flooring tiles as remnants from a family friend and my husband installed it himself (he's a handyman). It was his first time laying tile and I have to say, he did a damn good job (thanks to Google and YouTube).

Next, we painted the vanity a dark navy blue. I purchased the shower curtain months before even moving into our house and I love it so much that I wanted to design the bathroom to match (let's hope the curtain never gets wrecked). I love the size of this vanity - it fits everything so I knew I didn't want to replace it. The countertop is original - it's white so we couldn't go wrong. We did, however, we place the faucet. We wanted to continue with black hardware. Did you know you can buy a faucet on Amazon? They have everything! We just couldn't find a black bathroom faucet at any local hardware stores so Amazon it was.

The mirror we kept the original, as well - it's so big and I love it. We replaced the lighting which was a battle between my husband and I. We couldn't agree on lighting to save our life so this is what we both tolerated. Do I love it? Not totally but it's grown on me. We have a skylight in this bathroom and the natural light is amazing so we rarely even turn the light on.

Lastly, the decor. These shelves are all through my house - my husband cut and stained the wood to my preference and the brackets are from Amazon. This is the one staple I have in nearly every room and ties everything together. It's so simple and affordable! Along with adding black hardware to tie the house together, I also wanted to keep everything pretty square if that makes sense. I don't like the look of round hardware so our toilet paper and towel holders have a square look to them.

All in all, we are so thrilled about our new modern bathroom. It was a huge project especially when finishing everything on our own but worth it when saving as much as we did. I have linked everything we purchased for the bathroom below.
